A Cave Expedition – Kitulgala

Kitulgala being one of the wettest place in Sri Lanka is famous and popular for water based adventoureprogrammes and activities. The hiking through lush rainforests take you to the Belilen Cave discovered by Paul E. P. Deraniyagal in which the 12,000 year old skeletal remains of the pre-historic “Balangoda Man” was found. The presence of humans traces back to 32,000 years ago. Thus, the location is famous as ideal spot for an adventure in cave exploring in Sri Lanka.

A hike of approximately 8 Km through the jungle from Kitulgala to reach the Belilena caves. Apart from the caves, other fossils such as Sambar Deer and Indian Muntjac which are older more than 32,000 years can be explored.Opportunity to interact with local folk in the rustic and rural village.
