- The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic or Sri DaladaMaligawa which is located in the royal palace complex of the former kingdom of Kandy is a Buddhist Temple in Kandy, Sri Lanka. It contains the relic of the tooth of the Lord Buddha. It has been a belief that whoever holds the relic has the governance of the country. Thus, the relic of Lord Buddha has been an important factor in the field of politics since ancient era. Kandiyan city along with the Temple is a World Heritage site and holds it prestige as the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings. - Royal Botanic Gardens is located at Peradeniya just 5Km away from the city of Kandy. The Mahavali River that flows beside the garden adds more glamour and beauty to the garden. - The National Museum of Kandy which was opened to the public in 1942 is locate next to the Temple of the Tooth. The building was built according to the architectural features of the kandyian era.
- Udawattakele Forest Reserve, also known as UdaWasalaWatta is situated in the heart of the city. The sanctuary contains of many plant species, mammals and several kinds of reptiles. It was in 1856 that the forest was designated as a forest reserve and recognized as a sanctuary in 1938. Further, it is consisted of a nature education centre with a display of posters, stuffed animals and pictures etc. The forest is well-known for its variety of plants, animals and birds.
- The National Railway Museum in Kandy was established in 2014 in view of commemorating the 150th anniversary of the railway service in Sri Lanka. The museum is a fine collection of engines, rail cars, trolleys, locomotives, carriages and other articles that depicts different eras since 1864.
- The Bahirawakanda Temple is another tourist destination in Kandy. The huge statue of Lord Buddha in meditative position not only attracts people but also can be seen from anywhere in the city.
- GadaladeniyaVihara, EmbekkaDevalaya and LankatilakaVihara are most ancient Buddhist temples in Kandy.
